Fulmer's Farmstead Adventure

Today we joined a homeschooling group on a field trip adventure! We went to Fulmer's General Store and Farm. The field trip was set up and cost $15 for anyone over three.

Our adventure started with a walk through the barn. Here we got to meet the horses (and a few chickens) and they told us about the farm and their family!

Next they showed us how they plowed using the horses. Two of the most beautiful horses pulled the plows, and some of the older kids got to help with the plowing.

Our next adventure was in the potato fields. They plowed up a few rows of potatoes and then let the kids dig and gather some potatoes (which we were given a large bag of before we left).

Here was also got to talk about all the other crops that they were growing and what would available for sale in the general store after our tour was done.

After the potatoes were gathered, we headed into the store for some bread baking. Hands washed, gloves on, dough ready... We all made a small twisted load of bread that was then baked for us to pick up before we left for the day. Funniest part of this was watching the smallest guests (like Gracie) try to do anything with the dough while they had enormous gloves on.

Next was lunch time!! Our sack lunches were prepared by the general store. They included ham sandwiches with amazing meat and bread, some chips, a drink, and chicken feet shaped gummy candies!! It was an adorable little sitting area, perfectly fitting for a general store! It made me miss home and the days of Eastside, having the old men sitting around drinking coffee and talking. Here you can buy sliced meats, sandwiches, cooked meals, and a few different flavors of cakes! I am sure they have other things you can order to eat, but we were stuffed and ready to move on to the next adventure!

While we waited on everyone to finish with lunch we went out back to the most beautiful yard. The kids all ran around and played, even getting a great game of "duck, duck, goose" which the little ones had never played before! After the whole group had ventured outside we got to explore a small cabin from the 1930's.

By this point I was even more convinced than ever that I was ready to move to the country and homestead. I think I would trade this laptop and my phone in to head back to the simple life that it seemed they lived so long ago. (okay, so maybe I will compromise and keep the phone).

The next part of our tour led us to the eggs! The little ones got to go look for and gather a few eggs! We also made little "toys" of corn cobs with feathers in them! They become a torpedo to see how far you can throw it! (Man it seems that those were the days when we didn't have Xbox and TV)

We also got to see the goats. One of them came out and finished the tour with us! The kids loved feeding, petting, and leading her around!

Next, while waiting on the wagon ride we got to see the pigs, watch the tomato washer, take a group picture, and chase the goat!

Next was the wagon ride! It was a nice end to the day! The kids loved it and it was a nice way to see the all around the farm!

Before we left we picked up our potatoes and bread!! We also purchased a few goodies from the general store! They had so many things to choose from, it was a homesteaders paradise! Today we left with fresh snap peas, a few nice tomatoes, and some cheese!

This was an amazing first summer field trip for us! I loved it and what a great thing for this family to open up their farm and let the kids experience these things. They were the nicest people and I would love to come back again. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking for something to do this summer!

Here is the facebook link for them!!
